FYBR is a pioneer in the use of drone technology to measure and monitor forest composition to inform industry, government, public, and private stakeholders to maximize the efficient use and regeneration of our forest resources. We work with forestry companies across North America to centralize raw biomass data and apply big data and machine learning principles to optimize the use of wood fibre for bioenergy and wood product production.

We are looking for a bright Field Technologist to join our multidisciplinary team.

Position overview

FYBR Solutions is seeking a Field Technologist to join its growing team of researchers, operators, and developers base in Vancouver, BC. The successful candidate will work directly with the COO and will be responsible for field-level acquisition of remote sensing data of biomass inventory at wood pellet plants, pulp mills, sawmills, and forest blocks to monitor regeneration and stand inventory in the BC and Alberta regions. Transport Canada approved UAV training will be provided. Secondary to field operations, this position will support the GIS team for data analysis and report generation. This position is a paid summer co-op running 16 weeks from May to September and requires approximately 40% time on the road (12 days per month).

Responsibilities

  • Perform field operations to support data acquisition initiatives
  • Support image processing tasks, archiving and distribution of remotely sensed data
  • Coordinate / communicate with researchers, clients, and internal stakeholders to achieve project objectives
  • Compile project reports and proposals as required

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and cooperative education program in a STEM field (forestry or environmental focus a plus)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid Passport
  • Eligible to work in Canada (Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or person who has been granted refugee status)
